- Announcing AGD Mastership Award
July 31, 2003
Dear Friends:
The staff of Stephen Lockwood, DMD, MAGD are pleased to share with you an important honor for our practice. On July 19, 2003, Dr. Lockwood reached a career milestone when he was awarded his mastership from the Academy of General Dentistry. He thus joins a select group of 1,000 Masters in the U.S. and abroad.
To receive the Mastership Award, an AGD member must complete a minimum of 1,100 hours of continuing education, including 400 hours of hands-on courses, and have previously earned a Fellowship Award. Study must include all 16 disciplines in dentistry including periodontics, orthodontics, and implants. About 10% of general dentists have earned a mastership or fellowship award.
Dr. Lockwood has actually exceeded the mastership requirements, with 467 hours, many of these in orthodontics, implants, and restorative dentistry. These hours demonstrate his long-standing commitment to professional development and currency in the latest dental technology and techniques. Dentistry is an ever-changing field, observes Dr. Lockwood, and I want to provide my patients with the best care, the most comfortable experience, and the most effective results possible. Through it I have the opportunity to serve and help others by aiding them to achieve better health, a beautiful smile, and life-long self-esteem.
The AGD Mastership is the most recent reflection of Stephen Lockwoods passionate belief in the power of dentistry to help people. By the time he finished his own orthodontic treatment in the 7th grade, he was determined to help others feel as good as he did when he got his braces off. From that time on he committed himself to a career in dentistry, graduating from the Oral Roberts School of Dentistry in 1984. He began his practice in 1989 and has shared his knowledge through teaching dental laser techniques for Biolase and orthodontics for Progressive Orthodontic Seminars.
Dr. Lockwood values his association with the Academy of General Dentistry and sees it as a professional organization with particularly high standards. It has guided him through the evolution of modern dentistry with its continuing education courses, taught by some of the countrys most talented and respected specialists.
While Dr. Lockwood is very proud of this most recent achievement, he notes that it is really a reflection of my care for my many patients who continue to place their trust in me. I do not take this for granted, and I will continue to seek even better ways of performing dentistry more comfortably and skillfully for my patients. He looks forward to many more years of growth with his supportive, professional staff, continuing and new patients with whom he can share the delight of healthy, happy smiles.
